Exciting opportunities for apprentices and trainees across the Group.
It’s not just the Trust that supports trainees and apprenticeships! Our partners in The Wrekin Housing Group are also passionate about teaching young people valuable skills for employment.
The Furniture Scheme
Ben started volunteering for The Furniture Scheme, where he helped out on reception. After showing his skills and enthusiasm, he was taken on as a Business Admin Apprentice and has gone from strength to strength!
“I like working in an environment where everyone respects each other, and I really enjoy working closely with the community. I’ve gained lots of confidence while working at the Rockspring Centre, and have learnt lots of skills like IT and organisation skills. I really enjoy working here because they help the community and give lots of support to the public.”
Gill Pitt, HR Learning & Development Manager for The Furniture Scheme, said that it’s been great to see Ben develop and gain confidence in his role: “We offer help to the community and to those wanting to work and learn new skills in an encouraging environment; it’s been really rewarding to be able to offer this opportunity to Ben.”
Chris was 19 when he started working as a Trainee Chef at our ShireLiving scheme Oakwood, in Wellington. Although Chris has previous experience working in hospitality he had little experience as a chef. Working very closely with ShireLiving’s Regional Catering Manager Jacob, Chris has been able to quickly develop into a great chef catering to resident’s tastes at Oakwood.
Chris is now the Assistant Chef at Oakwood: “I find it difficult to learn in a classroom environment. Jacob has been great training me with hands on methods to help me quickly learn and develop my skills. I cook a lot of different things for our residents and visitors. I love this job and even come in on my days off to practice what I’m being taught. I really enjoy it, I love learning something new all the time!
Chris’ Eccles cakes and bread and butter pudding are a hit with everyone and are building a reputation fast so it goes to show bespoke training and development can help the staff as well as residents.
We don't currently have any apprenticeships at the group
